Response to COVID-19

We see our role during and after the pandemic as supporting the most vulnerable populations in our partner countries.

The coronavirus crisis hits poor countries in Africa, South Asia and Latin America the hardest. The Swiss development organization Helvetas is supporting those most affected with various initiatives in the fight against the virus — in close cooperation with local authorities and local partner organizations. Some examples include:

Distribution of hygiene kits (disinfectants, soap, masks)
Installation of mobile hand washing stations
Information campaigns via flyers, loudspeaker announcements, social media and radio to raise awareness — including against circulating misinformation
Continuation of educational offerings outdoors or, where possible, through digital channels following school closures
Development of digital courses
Financial support through cash for work programs for people who no longer have an income due to lockdowns
Creation of new income opportunities (e.g., through production of masks)
Support for local production of disinfectants
Support for governments in the implementation of vaccination campaigns
